When Asuka joined thyssenkrupp nucera® in 2018, communication wasn’t part of the plan. But that’s exactly what makes her story so unique: she shaped her role from the ground up – and turned it into something truly her own.

Today, Asuka is the voice of thyssenkrupp nucera in Japan. From internal updates to branding, events, digital content and strategy – she handles it all. Not as part of a big team, but with the freedom and trust to act independently and creatively. 👏

💬 “I’m not just following templates – I get to decide how we present ourselves in Japan. That comes with responsibility, but also with a lot of opportunity to grow.”

What began as a challenge soon became a passion. Working as a one woman communication team doesn’t mean being isolated – Asuka is deeply connected to colleagues in Japan and around the world: from Germany to China and the U.S. She’s part of a growing global network that shares, supports, and collaborates across borders. 🌎

💬 “Even if I’m the only communications person here, I never feel alone. I reach out anytime, and we solve things together.”

Her favorite part? The creative freedom. Designing brochures. Building campaigns. Organizing events. Developing stories. With no strict hierarchy and a lot of trust, she’s able to bring ideas to life in a way that reflects both the brand and her own style. 💡

Outside of work, Asuka finds balance in contrasts. She’s a passionate horror gamer 🎮 – recharging after work with heart-pounding sessions on her PlayStation. She also loves escaping the busy city for nature: hiking through forests, relaxing in hot springs, and exploring Japan’s quieter corners. 🌳

How do you celebrate the 11th Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day? 🥳

Our team in Japan found their own way: with a get-together that brought hydrogen to life – from meaningful conversations to creative touches that reflect our mission. 🇯🇵

The day itself carries a special meaning: October 8 (10.08) was selected in reference to the atomic weight of hydrogen (1.008) and serves as a reminder to raise awareness for a clean energy Technology that is already here.

Why does this day matter? Because hydrogen is already driving the Energy Transition today – and at thyssenkrupp nucera, we’re turning that momentum into a climate-neutral tomorrow.

After more than two decades in the job, Steffen didn’t slow down – he switched gears. 🚀 He moved from Germany to Houston with his wife, two cats, and a suitcase full of experience – ready to build something new.

Before coming to the U.S., Steffen was part of one of thyssenkrupp nucera’s most ambitious projects: NEOM. A green hydrogen plant unlike anything before – designed, planned, and currently executed at massive scale. ⬆️

💬 “That project was my blueprint. We created the concept, and two years later, I got to see how it performed on site. I even found seven mistakes in my own plan – and fixed them. That’s real engineering.”

Now, Steffen is part of the U.S. team – supporting several departments and helping to implement a new full-service model across North America. But his biggest shift wasn’t technical – it was cultural. 🌎

💬 “Here, everything is faster. More direct. People make decisions, get things done. I love that hands-on energy – and the team welcomed us with open arms.”

Whether it was finding a car, getting insurance, or simply learning how Texas works – Steffen and his wife quickly realized they weren’t alone.

With their kids grown and living their own lives, the move was a reset – and a conscious step into something new. Today, Steffen spends his weekdays between customer sites and strategy meetings. On weekends, you’ll find him swimming laps in the pool, hitting the company gym, travel around America or playing cards with other expats over a cold drink and a laugh. 🥳
