In procurement, Rizaldy Fontanosa is known as a quick thinker with a sharp analytical mind. When he’s not working with suppliers across continents, you’ll find him roaming Tokyo with his monochrome camera. 📸

💬 “I try to minimize,” Rizaldy says. “JPEG, straight out of the camera at times. I love the filmic monochrome look recently.” He loves to keep things essential, intentional, and honest.

When thyssenkrupp nucera reached out in 2017, Rizaldy already brought years of experience in energy and sustainable solutions. With a civil engineering background and more than a decade in project management and procurement, he combined depth with strategic vision. 👏

💬 “My role sits at the intersection of strategy, technical understanding, and real-world impact,” he shares. “

At thyssenkrupp nucera Japan, he oversees procurement for chlor-alkali plants, handling supplier qualification and negotiation through to delivery coordination. His decisions influence both technical outcomes and financial results. Adjusting to the direct and surprisingly open communication style in the Tokyo office challenged his early assumptions about Japanese work culture. 🇯🇵

On weekends, Ryan Chen, heads to the waterways of West Shanghai with his kayak. It’s a sport that equally demands focus, agility and calm – qualities that define both his approach to sales and his life in general. 🚣

💬 “The key point for kayaking is to keep balance,” Ryan explains.

That same principle guides him as Sales Manager at thyssenkrupp nucera China, where he’s spent the last decade building relationships, listening to customers, and navigating the chlor-alkali and green hydrogen markets.

Ryan’s journey to thyssenkrupp nucera was driven by ambition: Three years studying civil and environmental engineering in the UK taught him more than technical skills: independence and a deeper awareness of what it takes to care for yourself and others. That experience shaped his resilience and adaptability.

Today, Ryan brings that resilience to his work. As a sales manager, he operates at the intersection of company and customer, often standing on the customer’s side to build trust.

💬 “Empathy and being a good listener are my strengths,” he says.

It’s a skill honed through years of experience –and through fatherhood. Ryan has a three – year-old daughter who’s taught him lessons no sales training ever could.

💬 “You have to be patient and explain questions a grown-up would never think about”, he smirks as he ponders whether that helps with listening to customers and delivering solutions.

At thyssenkrupp nucera, Ryan is working on growth in the chlor-alkali business. The CA business supports thyssenkrupp nucera’s green hydrogen ambitions, and Ryan sees it as part of a bigger mission: “It’s a good place to achieve the energy transition from fossil fuels to green energy.” 🌱

What makes nucera stand out? “Good culture,” Ryan says. “It’s quite a work-life balance.” Between work, family, and kayaking, he’s learned to navigate it all with steady focus. 🧘
